My Tarot Deck Collection

This is an alphabetical list of decks in my tarot deck collection.

I intend work my way through them randomly and write a review of each deck. The reviews will be my own personal thoughts and feelings about the deck. Just click on the deck name to follow the link to the relevant review.

You may ask yourself why I have so many decks, surely one tarot card meaning is the same as the other in each deck? Well the answer is simple. Each deck brings a different feeling or vibe. Each deck has a different picture and a different variation or slant on the meaning. So because I read intuitively the same card in each deck can conjure up many different feelings and thoughts. Not just a standard text book meaning.

To explain, if you take the same card from each deck, for example The Fool, the picture on the card can signify a different interpretation in each deck.

Sometimes The Fool is depicted as a person or baby looking at life with innocence and no worries or they are naive. But they could be depicted as someone who is not watching where they are going, what they are doing and being foolish.

Others may be shown as not seeing what is going on around them and they are being fooled. They are the ones that are being fooled by others. Or they are refusing to see things how they are and being fooled by themselves.

The Fool could be characterised as an initiate, an apprentice, someone who is at a stage of learning before gaining full knowledge or becoming The Magician. Maybe they have knowledge but no experience or vice versa. They could be unsure of how to use what they have or how put something in to practice. Therefore missing certain elements that The Magician would have.

The illustration could be of a jester, someone who ‘plays’ the fool. It could be that they do not take life seriously, maybe life is just a stage to them. It could be they act differently or wear a mask to hide their real personality or feelings.

The Fool can be portrayed as a male, female, genderless, spirit, energy, animal, bird or anything else that comes to mind. They can be shown as happy, sad, thoughtful, dreamy etc.

That’s how the same card can be interpreted so differently in different decks with a simple glance. With 78 cards and a multitude of decks available, with different surroundings and backgrounds there’s an infinite wealth of messages and knowledge to be given.

There is other rationality I have for getting decks too. Some are collectors decks, rare decks, independent decks, limited editions or commemorative decks. A lot of the decks are unusual, unique, spiritual, themed, quirky, fun or particularly beautiful, some are gifts etc.

Then there’s the system that they use, a lot of my decks are Rider, Waite, Smith (RWS) inspired but there are also Thoth, Golden Dawn, Marseilles inspired decks and then those that are unique.

Most of my decks are unique, they either have their own system and do not fit in to any category at all. Or they loosely follow the RWS system but have many changes.

For example they may have the same suits as the RWS but have totally unique scenes. Totally different titles for the majors and extra cards etc. Some are by a famous artists and the art was painted a long time ago but their pictures are used to loosely follow the Fools Journey, such as the Agni Roerich Tarot or Art of Life Tarot. Some are themed and instead of following the Fools Journey, they are based on a different Journey.

Over the years my tarot deck collection has grown for various reasons. I know now that it will keep increasing, although I am trying to slow it down. So I will update the list at various intervals.
